Did you know this about Alex Garban?
Alex Garban is from State College which is located near Penn State and played baseball and when Alex Garban was on the 14U Mid Atlantic Canes National Team the night before a game in a big tournament the team was sitting around the pool relaxing and the coach told the team who would be pitching the next day. The coach said I'm hoping to get Alex in for an inning to keep him lose. Alex Garban had been having control problems for a couple weeks and was infamous for walking the 1st batter he faced in every game he pitched. The coach at the end of the talked said "Alex, if you walk the 1st batter just walk back to the dugout. Don't even make me come out there just walk to the dugout.
The comment got laughs although everyone was pretty sure the coach was serious. This was a big tournament in State College and Penn State often times teams would have tying records after the 1st 6 games and to advance the tie breaker was who had the least amounts of runs against them and because of that giving up a run could be disastrous. Alex enterd in the sixth and finale ining, 14U was winning 6-0 when Alex entered the game and Alex Garban hit the first batter. The coach looked over to the dad's and said, well I guess he didn't hit him. Alex and his teammates looked over towards the bench numerous times before they realized the coach was leaving Alex Garban in.
Alex Garban then proceeded to strikeout the 2nd batter then walk the 3rd, strikeout the 4th and walk the 5th. Now the bases were loaded he hit 1 batter walked 2 batters and struck out 2 batters. In the blink of an eye Alex threw three straight balls to the 6th batter and giving up at least won run looked inevitable. The sixth batter then fouled two off and swung and missed the next 3 to end the game.
